Students Receive National Honors with President’s Volunteer Service Award
April is Global Volunteer Month, a time to celebrate the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle important social challenges and build more vibrant communities. Each year, many Raritan Valley Community College students go above and beyond in their service to the community and campus through curricular service learning and co-curricular community engagement activities.

The President's Volunteer Service Award is a civil award bestowed by the President of the United States. Originally established by executive order from George W. Bush, the award honors volunteers that give hundreds of hours per year helping others. It is a premier volunteer award, encouraging citizens to live a life of service through presidential gratitude and national recognition, honoring them for looking around, being inspired, and taking positive action that changes the world.
Depending on the amount of service hours completed, individuals can receive the Bronze, Silver, or Gold award. Honorees receive a personalized certificate signed by the President of the United States, a letter from the President, and a medallion.
The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too.
