Early College Credits

If you are a high school sophmore, junior or senior, you can jump start your college education by earning early college credits at RVCC. To enroll in college level courses at RVCC's Branchburg campus, you must complete an RVCC application and an Early Credit Registration Form, have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and obtain approval from your parents.

The Early Credit Form must be submitted by:

  • December 20 for Spring semester
  • April 30 for Summer semester
  • August 1 for Fall semester

FAQs

Can I take any class I want to?

Students may choose from a wide variety of courses. View our Course Schedule. Students participating in a specific program/institute should check their acceptance letter regarding which course(s) to take. Students interested in taking a science lab course must be 16 years of age.

Is there an application fee?

As of October 7th 2022, there will be no application fee.

Can I apply if I’m being homeschooled?

Yes, but since you will not have an academic transcript, homeschooled students need a high school portfolio (list of courses, grades, GPA, and estimated completion date).

Will my credits transfer?

All credits taken with the Early College Program at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) will transfer to a RVCC degree. For other colleges/universities, we strongly recommend the student to contact them directly and review their transfer policy when choosing which Early College course(s) to take.

How do I apply? What is the deadline?

Students can complete an online application by clicking here. Please apply as an EARLY CREDIT STUDENT.  Once your application has been received and processed, you will receive a Welcome Letter from the Office of Admissions.

Once you have received your student G# and password, please complete the Registration Form. The registration form can then be submitted via email to early.credits@raritanval.edu in the request email to set up a meeting with an Early Credit Advisor.

The Early Credit Form must be submitted by:

  • December 20 for Spring semester
  • April 30 for Summer semester
  • August 1 for Fall semester

Please note: Early Credit Students are only eligible to take the 15- and/or 12-week sessions. These courses begin within the first two months of the semester. Early Credit Students are not eligible for the 10- or 7-week courses in the Fall or Spring semesters.

 

Can I apply for financial aid/scholarships? What is the cost?

High school students are not eligible for financial aid. At this time, we do not offer scholarships for students taking courses as Early Credit.

Can I audit a course?

Early Credit Students are NOT eligible to take courses as an audit.

Is there any placement testing required?

We encourage all of our Early Credit Students to take the English and Math Placement Test if they do not already have other forms of testing exemptions. Please see here for the list of exemptions.

If you are interested in signing up for any Math, English, Science or any other courses that require placement and/or pre-reqs, placements must be on file.

Early Credit Students are not allowed to take developmental courses.

What you should know as a parent? What is FERPA?

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, also known as FERPA is a federal law passed in 1974 that protects  the privacy of a student’s education record.

What is the difference between Early Credit and Concurrent Enrollment Programs?

  • Early Credit – Take classes on campus
  • Concurrent Enrollment – Take RVCC college classes through the K-12 program. Partnership with select high schools.

Students parking on campus do not need to pay for parking.

CHECKLIST

1)  Apply online and select class
Apply as an Early Credit student via https://myraritan.force.com/apply . You will not be charged for an application. Select the Course Schedule in consultation with your high school guidance counselor.

2)  Obtain G number and password  
Once you complete your application, a G number and password will be assigned to you through your welcome email. If you did not receive your welcome email or was not assigned a G number or password. Please contact admissions.

3)  Submit Immunization Paperwork
Raritan Valley Community College is committed to creating a safe and healthy environment for our students. We comply with all state laws regarding immunizations for students.

All RETURNING, VISITING, and NON-DEGREE SEEKING students must submit proof of compliance with the State of New Jersey requirements for immunization for:
·    2 doses of MenACWY (Meningococcal disease) (Age 30 and under)
·    1 dose of MenB (Meningococcal disease) (Age 30 and under) (NJ State Recommended)
You can download the Immunization Record Form and bring it to your doctor to fill it out. Once completed send the signed document(s) to the Admissions office, via one of the following options:

If an outbreak of these diseases occurs, any students not having provided proof of proper immunization, including students who are exempt, may be barred from class attendance until the outbreak is over.

4)  Review course schedule
Click on Course Schedule, once you’re on the site, select the term you wish to take courses and hit submit.

On the page Class Schedule Search, select a subject. Below you will see a vary of categories helping to modify your individual search. Once you select the course and modifications you can select Class Search.  

On the page Class Schedule Listing you will see a list of available sections. You will be able to view the starting and ending dates of courses along with the times or how many credits a course has. When you click on View Catalog Entry, you will be able to see an overview of the content that will be covered along with the prerequisite for the course, if any.

5)  Placements
If you are interested in taking an English, Foreign Language or Mathematics course or a course that requires a pre-requisite, you will need to submit proof of exemptions and/or the pre-requisite requirement.

If you do not have any exemptions and still wish to take English or Math. You first will need to take a Placement exam.  Click link provided to schedule an appointment:

6)  Schedule a Meeting with an Early Credit Advisor
Once you have applied, received your Gnumber, and submitted your Early Credit Registration Form, please reach out to early.credits@raritanval.edu to request a meeting with an initial meeting with Early Credit Advisor. This meeting can be in person or via zoom. During the meeting you will receive your schedule from the advisor. You will also receive your semester schedule and be walked through how to use the tiles within Lion’s Den: Office 365 – College Email, Canvas, Registration and Payment, etc. 

Please note: A parent must be in attendance to this initial meeting. 

7)  Pay Tuition
Pay all tuition and fees by required dates.

To pay your student bill online, sign into Lion’s Den and find the Registration and Payment tile. Your Lion’s Den account information is your G#@stu.raritanval.edu and password. Within this tile you see the Account Detail for Term tile. Pick the current semester to access the current bill. There you will find a breakdown of the tuition and fees owed.

 8)  Obtain your RVCC ID Card
Click here to access the directions to submit your photo for an ID Card. Once you have submitted an appropriate photo following the ID guidelines, you will be notified via your RVCC email from studentid@raritanval.edu. You will need to bring identification with you to pick up your ID.
