Event Focusing on Intersectional Identities in Health Care Set
Raritan Valley Community College will present “Valid: Keeping Space for Intersectional Identities in Health Care,” October 5, from 7-8:30 p.m. The event, which is free of charge and open to the public, is being sponsored by the College’s Evelyn S. Field Library in partnership with the Paul Robeson Institute for Ethics, Leadership, and Social Justice at RVCC.
The hybrid program will be held in the College Atrium and online via Zoom.
“Valid: Keeping Space for Intersectional Identities in Health Care” is an advocacy event geared toward faculty, health care profession majors, and health care professionals, as well as individuals within the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. The program is designed to increase awareness of the issues and obstacles that BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals face while trying to access healthcare, as well as address the intersections of these identities.
Guest speakers include Daniel A. Fernandez (he/him/el) and Danielle King (she/them), both LGBTQ+ patient navigators from the PROUD Gender Center of New Jersey, and Rae Hill (they/them), owner of Origami Customs.
The program will conclude with a question-and-answer session with the panelists to generate conversations about the barriers and limitations faced by many individuals. The session is also designed to help provide self-advocacy and patient advocacy solutions.
