Poetry Reading to Feature Chrysanthemum Tran
Raritan Valley Community College will present a poetry reading with Chrysanthemum Tran, November 15, at 2:30 p.m. The event, which is free of charge and open to the public, will be held in the Nash Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus. Face masks are required in all RVCC facilities.
Chrysanthemum Tran is a poet, writer, performance artist, and historian. She is the recipient of a MacColl Johnson Fellowship from the Rhode Island Foundation. In 2016, she burst onto the poetry slam scene when she became the first trans woman finalist of the Women of the World Poetry Slam. Gracing the stages of the National Poetry Slam Finals and the College Slam Invitational Finals, she is a Rustbelt Poetry Slam Champion, FEMS Poetry Slam Champion, and Providence Grand Slam Champion. With poet Justice Ameer, she produced and debuted the multidisciplinary show, ANTHEM, at the American Repertory Theater’s OBERON. She is currently developing her first manuscript, which unveils the historical constructions and codifications of legal sex. Born and raised in Oklahoma, she resides in Rhode Island.
