Virtual Community Programs in April Focus on Remembrance, Resilience & Research
Raritan Valley Community College’s Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies will present a series of communitywide virtual programs in April focusing on the themes of Remembrance, Resilience and Research. All events are free of charge and open to the public.
The following programs are being held in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties; Jewish LIFE; the JCC Holocaust Memorial & Education Center; and the NJ Commission on Holocaust Education:
Friday, April 9, 10 a.m., Defiant Requiem: The Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) observance will feature a viewing of the documentary, Defiant Requiem, followed by a discussion with Maestro Murry Sidlin, the President and Creative Director of the Defiant Requiem Foundation. The 45-minute, feature-length film tells the extraordinary, untold story of the brave acts of resistance by Jewish prisoners at the Theresienstadt (Terezín) concentration camp during World War II.

Monday, April 19, 7 p.m., Confronting the Challenging Landscape of Holocaust Research in Poland: The Polish government's ongoing efforts toward the revisionism of Holocaust memory and the legal silencing of scholars have propelled historians into the public light. The program will feature Dr. Monika Rice (Gratz College) and Dr. Joanna Sliwa (Claims Conference) for a virtual discussion on the charges facing historians of the Holocaust in Poland, the ramifications of these attacks on their own research, and public understanding of this history moving forward.
