Traveling Exhibition on Infectious Diseases to be on View at Library
The public is invited to visit a travel exhibition, “Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World,” presented by the Hunterdon County Health Department featuring materials from the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, March 16-20, at Raritan Valley Community College, Branchburg.
The display, which includes graphic panels, interactive media and 3D models, will be on view in the College’s Evelyn S. Field Library during regular Library hours: March 16-19, 8 a.m.-9 p.m., and March 20, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
This timely exhibit asks such questions as: Why do infectious diseases emerge where they do? What makes them spread so quickly? Where do we look for the next one? Explore the connections between human, animal and environmental health, and discover how people around the world track down and respond to disease outbreaks. Examine models of viruses up close, engage with videos and maps, and play an interactive game to contain an outbreak.
The exhibition focuses on several themes: outbreak origins; stopping the spread of disease; detection, response and containment of diseases; and various disease profiles. As the population grows, people interact with animals and the environment in new ways that can cause disease epidemics. Around the world, people are working together to stop these outbreaks—sometimes before they even start.
