Summer Healthcare Career Program for High School Students Planned
High school students interested in learning more about nursing or other healthcare careers are invited to attend a five-day summer program in July sponsored by Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) and Hunterdon Medical Center (HMC). The program is open to high school students in the classes of 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Summer H.E.A.T (Healthcare Exploration and Training) 2019 is designed to assist high school students in determining their career pathways by expanding their knowledge about healthcare professions. Students are invited to attend one of two scheduled sessions. Session I will be offered July 8-12, and Session 2 will be held July 15-19. The program runs Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The program begins on Monday with an orientation and lab day at RVCC’s Branchburg campus. During the orientation, students receive instruction by RVCC nursing faculty in the nursing simulation lab and may participate in an ophthalmic lab activity and/or an occupational therapy assistant lab activity at the College. The next four days (Tuesday through Friday) take place at Hunterdon Medical Center under the supervision of RVCC nursing faculty and hospital professionals. Students shadow and interact with various professionals including nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, dietary and respiratory therapy staff at the hospital.
The $200 cost includes lunches. Seats are limited, so those interested are encouraged to contact Elliot Stetson, RNBC, MSN, CCRN at Elliot.Stetson@raritanval.edu as soon as possible to obtain an application or for further information. Applications, required documents and payment are due June 14.
