Student Production of Tigers Be Still to be Performed
Raritan Valley Community College’s Visual and Performing Arts Department will present a student theatre production of Tigers Be Still by Kim Rosenstock, March 27-29, at 7 p.m. The production, which is free of charge and open to the public, will be staged in the Welpe Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus.
Playwright Rosenstock refers to her play as a “comedy about depression.” The story revolves around Sherry Wickman and her recently broken up older sister and ill mother. Sherry finds herself unemployed, overwhelmed, and back at home after earning a master's degree in art therapy. When Sherry gets hired as a substitute art teacher, things begin to brighten up in her world.
The New York Times wrote of Tigers Be Still: “Ms. Rosenstock’s play is so amply stocked with whimsy-tinted woes that the prevailing tone of naturalism threatens to warp into something more surreal. But her subtly funny dialogue and the vivid, truthful characters keep the play grounded in prickly emotional authenticity.”
The RVCC production’s cast and crew include:
Aubrey Holtzman – Washington (Warren County)
Anna Logan – Berkeley Heights
John Duensing – Bernards Township
Arturro Parra – Somerville
Christopher Balboa – Flemington
Joshua Blankman – Somerville
Corey Briggs – Hampton
Ariella Mendieta – Bound Brook
The play is being directed by Dennis Russo, RVCC Professor of Theatre.
