Openings are still available in Raritan Valley Community College’s non-credit summer programs for students from middle school through high school. The following programs will be offered at the College’s Branchburg campus:

Creative Writing Boot Camp: Students ages 12-17 stretch their writing muscles crafting short stories, poetry, memoirs, scripts, and non-fiction pieces. The program helps keep writing skills sharp and develops new skills for the coming school year. The class will be held Monday through Friday, June 25-29, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The fee is $288.

Tell YOUR Story: Students ages 12-17 explore ways to document the events of their life in a finished project, whether it’s a one-act play, short film script, short story, or memoir. Careers in writing also are discussed. The class will be held Monday through Friday, July 9-13, from 9 a.m.-noon. The fee is $180.

Poetry Workshop: Students ages 12-17 use prompts and published poems to create poems featuring traditional forms, free verse and experimental forms. The program offers a great way for students to express their feelings through writing and also stay focused for upcoming English classes. The class will be held Monday through Friday, July 9-13, from 1-4 p.m. The fee is $180.

Introduction to Mass Media: Students ages 12-17 learn about the history of mass media and how it has influenced society. Participants also explore career options in mass media. In-class group projects focusing on developing the next hit TV show or movie culminate in fun presentations. The class will be held Monday through Friday, July 23-27, from 9 a.m.-noon. The fee is $180.

Film Appreciation: Students ages 12-17 examine how movies are made and how they tell their stories. Careers in filmmaking are addressed. Class sessions focus on viewing and discussing popular films. The class will be held Monday through Friday, July 23-27, from 1-4 p.m. The fee is $180.

Exploring Journalism: Students ages 12-17 look at different ways of reporting the news and work on their own news stories. Students also explore careers in journalism. The class will be held Monday through Friday, July 30-August 3, from 9 a.m.-noon. The fee is $180.

Communication Skills and Confidence Building: Students ages 12-17 learn ways to overcome shyness and speak confidently one-on-one and in small groups. The class also focuses on giving speeches and handling job interviews. Fun exercises help students prepare for the job market and school presentations. The class will be held Monday through Friday, July 30-August 3, from 1-4 p.m. The fee is $180.

Marketing and Advertising – How Things are Sold: Students ages 12-17 learn about careers in advertising and marketing, successful ad campaigns and the process of marketing products. In-class group work culminates in fun product pitches and the creation of an ad campaign. The class will be held Monday through Friday, August 6-10, from 9 a.m.-noon. The fee is $180.

Intercultural Communication: Students ages 12-17 learn about appreciating their own cultural heritage while embracing the backgrounds of other cultures. Multiculturalism at home, school and in the workplace is addressed. The class will be held Monday through Friday, August 6-10, from 1-4 p.m. The fee is $180.

RVCC’s Youth Program offers classes for students ages 5-17 in such areas as computers, academic enrichment, fine and performing arts, sciences and writing. If parents are in need of before- and/or after-care for their children, students may arrive as early as 7:30 a.m. and be picked up as late as 6 p.m.
