November offers an incredible, eclectic lineup at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, including performances featuring shadow puppets, a quintet from Zimbabwe, a trailblazing guitarist, and a one-man show focusing on Tourette Syndrome. The following presentations will be offered:

Crankie Storytelling (Katherine Fahey), Saturday, November 11, at 7 p.m., $20; Sunday, November 12, at 3 p.m., $15 (special matinee pricing)

Artist/puppeteer Katherine Fahey will present her original “crankies”—intricate papercut scrolling artwork, through which shadow puppets appear—that depict songs and stories. Her artwork has been incorporated into music posters, portraits, set design and animation, including lush music videos for musicians such as Wye Oak and Ellen Cherry. Fahey has performed at puppet “slams” throughout the country; at the Baltimore, Seattle and Sandglass crankie festivals; and at schools, libraries, colleges and universities.

Nobuntu, Sunday, November 19, at 2 p.m.; $25 & $35

This powerful female a cappella quintet from Zimbabwe has drawn international acclaim for its inventive performances that range from traditional Zimbabwean songs, to afro jazz, to gospel. The ensemble performs with pure voices, augmented by minimalistic percussion, traditional instruments and authentic dance movements. Nobuntu represents a new generation of young women singers that celebrates and preserves its culture, beauty and heritage through art. The quintet’s voices, energy and breathtaking performance on stage is an experience that inspires and touches people of all cultures and walks of life. Audience members are invited to stay after the show for a question-and-answer session and to meet the artists.

Nobuntu’s performance is funded through the Mid Atlantic Tours program of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Elephant in Every Room I Enter (Gardiner Comfort), Tuesday, November 28, at 1 p.m. & 7 p.m.; $15 (General admission; includes discussion and light refreshments; audience members may pre-order a $5 box lunch and dine before the 1 p.m. show)

Gardiner Comfort’s intimate solo piece focuses on living with Tourette Syndrome, a neurological disorder characterized by uncontrollable physical and vocal tics. Using an erratic and energetic performance style, as well as evocative details of the artist’s week attending the Tourette Syndrome Association National Conference, Comfort shares his life as an actor with this neurological disorder. Through his work, he discovers for the first time in his life how he can truly be comfortable being himself.

Music of the Season (Tim Farrell), Thursday, November 30, at 1 p.m. & 7 p.m.; $15 (General admission; audience members may pre-order a $5 box lunch and dine before the 1 p.m. show. The 7 p.m. show includes light refreshments.)

With so many guitarists trying to make their mark these days, it’s not easy being a trailblazer. Yet that single word perfectly defines Tim Farrell, whose fingerstyle playing and original compositions display an elegant simplicity that celebrates the purity of the acoustic guitar. Farrell is a rare kind of musician who can both entertain an audience and inspire future generations of players. He maintains an active performing schedule, appearing in a variety of concert venues such as the Kimmel Center, Montreal Jazz Festival, Hard Rock Live, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many more. He has shared the stage with notable artists such as Les Paul, George Benson and Jean Luc Ponty. In addition to his appearance at the Theatre, Farrell will engage in community outreach performances, sharing his talents with seniors at local skilled nursing and assisted living facilities.
