Cellist, Pianist to Perform at RVCC
Cellist Ning Tien and pianist Roy Imperio will perform “Music of Four Continents,” Monday, October 17, at 8 p.m., at Raritan Valley Community College. The concert, which is being presented by RVCC’s Visual and Performing Arts Department, will be held in the Welpe Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus.
The program will feature RVCC Music Professor John Sichel's 2nd Cello Sonata, a work that was written for Dr. Tien in 1997. Stravinsky's “Suite Italienne” and music by Zhao Zhang, Yan Linda Zheng, Shirish Korde and Argentinian composer Astor Piazolla also will be performed.
Cellist Ning Tien has premiered and recorded works written specifically for her, including Cello Concerto by Dinos Constandinides; “Himalaya Capriccio” by Tian Lian-Tao; and Second Sonata for Cello and Piano by John Sichel. Dr. Tien in on the faculty of the Joy of Music Program in Worcester, MA, where in 2009 she gave the world premiere of a work written for her, Siren Nadamide’s “Zodiac with Twelve Animals” for cello and piano. She has made solo and chamber music appearances at New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, as well as in Boston, Baltimore, Atlanta, Rome, Athens, Vienna and Beijing.
Pianist Roy Imperio hails from the Philippines and has performed internationally and in the United States as a piano soloist, collaborative pianist, and chamber musician. He continues to perform in the New England area as a founding member of the Nashaway Trio and Trio Orione. In 2010 he released his first piano solo CD, Music of Frederic Chopin: a Life of Passion, to celebrate the composer's bicentennial. He resides in Massachusetts and is on the piano faculties of Atlantic Union College's Thayer Performing Arts Center, 77 Arts Academy, and Fitchburg State University. He also is a collaborative pianist at Boston Conservatory.
