October will offer a variety of performances at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg for every taste and interest—from ballet, to murder mystery, to political comedy, to puppetry, and much more. The following performances have been scheduled:

Fall Favorites (American Repertory Ballet), Saturday, October 8, at 3 p.m.; $25 & $35 (Reserved seating)
Fresh off its successful 2015-2016 tour, American Repertory Ballet presents Fall Favorites, an imaginative program of mixed repertoire. This exciting three-part performance features works including Shades of Time, a moving, visually compelling piece that evokes the passing of time, light and moods of the day; Ephemeral Possessions, a compilation of movements captured from memory to reflect vanishing experiences we all encounter; and Rite of Spring, a ballet by artistic director Douglas Martin inspired by revolutionary works by Ballets Russes. Set to Igor Stravinsky’s iconic music, this thought-provoking piece, brought to life with rhythmical precision and powerful movement, portrays how the relationships of men and women transcend time. A free, pre-show lecture led by ARB’s artistic director will be held at 2:15 p.m.

D-Generation – An Exaltation of Larks (Sandglass Theater), Friday, October 14, at 7 p.m., $20 (General admission); Saturday, October 15, at 3 p.m., $15 (General admission; special matinee pricing)
This exquisite theatre piece explores the rich creative potential and ability to communicate that exists in people with late-stage dementia. Their words, images, and creative imaginations, gathered by Sandglass Theater’s performers, yield work that is poetic, humorous, and quite mysterious. Set to a compelling original score and striking animated video segments, the collected stories are performed by three puppeteers manipulating five puppets. The stories reveal humor and playfulness as well as the dark reality of the disease.

Murder on the Nile (Aquila Theatre), Sunday, October 16, at 4 p.m.; $25 & $35 (Reserved seating)
Set in 1940s Egypt, this deliciously dangerous murder mystery is one of Dame Agatha Christie’s most popular tales. As the famous heiress Kay Ridgeway boards a honeymoon cruise with her penniless new husband, it’s inevitable that foul play will follow — especially when the passenger list on this treacherous journey includes a spurned lover, a protective uncle, a troubled German doctor, and a host of mysterious and colorful characters. Known for its breathtaking interpretations of theatrical classics, Aquila Theatre brings its signature style of thrilling physicality and stunning design to this brilliant new production. A free, pre-show lecture, “Agatha Christie and the Golden Age of Detective Fiction,” will be held at 3:15 p.m.

Badi Assad, Thursday, October 20, noon and 7 p.m.; $15 (General admission)
Transcending traditional styles of native Brazilian music with a mixture of pop, jazz and ethnic sounds from around the world, Badi Assad has inspired audiences and critics worldwide with her unique combination of technical mastery and innovation. Vibrant and electric, her performances combine extraordinary guitar talent, unique mouth percussion, beautiful singing, and rhythmic body movement to create an exciting, fresh sound that leaves spectators breathless.

The Capitol Steps, Saturday, October 22, at 8 p.m.; $35 & $45 (Reserved seating)
For over 30 years The Capitol Steps have been putting politics and scandal to music. This season The Capitol Steps plan to bring down the house—and the Senate—with their unique blend of music and political comedy. The troupe has performed for five Presidents, traveled to all 50 states (to sing, not sight-see), and will be performing songs from the Steps’ newest album, What to Expect When You’re Electing (2016). Has there ever been a funnier election season? Did you ever want to hear Donald Trump sing a rock song, Bernie Sanders belt out a show tune, and Hillary Clinton do stand-up comedy? The show offers the greatest hits of the campaign.

Thin Walls (Alice Eve Cohen), Tuesday, October 25, at noon and 7 p.m.; $15 (General admission; appropriate for audience members 14 and older)
Actress/author Alice Eve Cohen (What I Thought I Knew) returns to the Theatre at RVCC in a one-woman play about 12 lives colliding. Set in a century-old New York City residential hotel, once elegant but now crumbling, this darkly humorous and deeply moving play interweaves stories of the building’s long-term residents, its recent arrivals, and its ghosts.

The Triplets of Belleville (Benoit Charest with Le Terrible Orchestre de Belleville), Saturday, October 29, at 8 p.m.; $20 & $30 (Reserved seating)
Audiences will be “transported” to the exciting streets of 1920s Paris as composer-conductor Benoît Charest leads Le Terrible Orchestre de Belleville in a live performance of his original score, in tandem with a screening of the unclassifiable, outrageous and universally acclaimed animated film, The Triplets of Belleville. Charest’s infectious score ranges from rollicking dance numbers to dusky chansons, including the Oscar-nominated tune, “Belleville Rendez-vous.” The film features a cascade of memorable characters, including square-shouldered noir-era henchmen, an impossibly wiry Tour de France cyclist, and three eponymous jazz-era divas.
