Alyssa D

RVCC Student: Alyssa D

RVCC Major:

Liberal Arts/Social Science

Before RVCC:

“I was an average girl who had no idea where she wanted to go for college. My dad had lost his job during my senior year of high school, which made me extremely worried about how I was going to get through college. I knew community college was significantly cheaper than other colleges.”

The RVCC Advantage:

“RVCC’s sense of community sets it apart from an average community college experience. There’s always someone there to help you if you’re struggling. You feel like you’re seen and your voice is heard. There are leadership, internship, job, work study and transfer opportunities available—along with different events focused on self-growth.”

Professors:

“It surprised me how willing my professors were to answer questions, provide feedback and offer extra credit.”

RVCC Projects and Activities:

VP of Scholarship and Service for the Phi Theta Kappa honor society; Head of Communications for To Write Love on Her Arms, a club that raises awareness about mental illness; Member of Orgullo Latino/Latin Pride Club; Student Representative for the RVCC Foundation Board of Directors.

Honors:

Selected to participate in the highly competitive Sanofi Corporate Mentor Program for the 2018-19 academic year.

Future Plans:

Transfer to a four-year school to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, followed by a Master’s and Doctorate. Eventually Alyssa would like to open her own practice to counsel kids and teens struggling with mental illness.
