RVCC Dance Majors Perform at American Dance Conference

Twelve Raritan Valley Community College dance majors performed at the American College Dance Conference, held March 12-16 at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
RVCC dance students, directed by Professor of Dance Loretta Fois, have been performing at the prestigious annual conference since 2006.
The conference supports and promotes talent and creativity in college and university dance departments and highlights the various forms, styles, cultural traditions, and aesthetic dimensions of dance in performance. The experience allows students to engage in master classes, workshops, and research panels and gain exposure to the diversity of college dance throughout the United States. In addition, participants greatly benefit from the exchanges and connections among the dancers, faculty, and other college-age performers. The Raritan Valley Dance Ensemble supports the event by paying for the hotel, while students pay for their registration and provide their own transportation.
The American College Dance Conference also provided an opportunity for students to have their works adjudicated by a panel of nationally recognized dance professionals in an open and constructive forum. The adjudicators choose 10 outstanding pieces for the Gala concert. This year, one of RVCC’s student pieces, Silence, was selected for the Gala. The piece also was selected as an alternate for the National American Dance concert in Washington DC, which will be held in May. The selected piece was choreographed by Elanna Etemad, an RVCC alum and returning student, and is being danced by current students Cedric Thomas and Arianna McLean.
