Check out these college open house tips so you can make the most of any college open house experience.
What to Wear
- First and foremost, wear comfortable shoes! You’ll be doing a lot of walking around campus and potentially standing a lot, so be sure to keep your feet happy
- As for clothing, think tidy but comfortable. While you don’t have to be dressed for a job interview, you’ll probably want to avoid sweats, ripped items, and other overly casual pieces as you’ll be interacting with professors, admissions specialists, and other campus professionals
- Lastly, remember to dress for the weather. RVCC’s Open House will be held rain or shine, so grab that umbrella if there is a chance of rain
What to Bring
- A fully-charged phone and/or tablet so you can take notes, snap pictures of the campus, store contacts, and input important dates on your calendar
- A list of questions that can’t easily be answered on the College’s website
- A parent or a friend (optional) to support you and make sure all your questions are answered
- A bottle of water and a snack
- A pen for filling out any forms
What to Look For
It’s important to go to any Open House with a sense of observation and an open mind. In addition to learning about academics and financial aid, take note of the practical things that will be a part of your everyday campus experience.
- Student life. What is the vibe of the campus and the general feeling you get from students, faculty, and staff? Do they seem engaged, busy, social?
- Campus conveniences. Is the campus generally walkable and easy to navigate? Is there a gym or a childcare facility on site?
- Food and drink. What are the dining options and coffee spots? Are there refillable water stations and vending machines?
Now that you have a better idea of what to expect at RVCC’s Fall Open House on October 22, be sure to register today! We look forward to seeing you there.
