Raritan Valley Community College is committed to providing equal and integrated access for individuals with disabilities to all courses, programs, and activities it offers.
I am graduating from high school this year and will need accommodations at RVCC. What should I do?
First, please contact the DS office as soon as you know you will be attending RVCC to set up an intake appointment. You can ask your school to provide you with the most recent evaluations and copy of your IEP/504 Plan. You can also review our documentation guidelines for additional information.
Can I use accommodations for the placement test?
Yes, please complete the intake and submit documentation 2-3 weeks prior to taking the placement test. It is important to note that the placement test is not timed in the math and reading sections. The writing portion is the only one that has a time limit. There is a pop up calculator for the math portion.
Are there different documentation requirements for different disabilities?
Yes. Documentation of a disability must be from a qualified professional and must indicate specific recommendations related to appropriate academic accommodations, based on the individual’s functional limitations.
What are some of the most common accommodations at RVCC?
Accommodation requests are reviewed individually on a case by case basis however, many students receive additional time for tests/quizzes, alternate location for testing, note taking assistance, etc.
Are there other Support Services available for students with disabilities?
Yes, the faculty and staff at RVCC are committed to student success. All students are encouraged to take advantage of the various support services that are available. The support services are offered in an inclusive educational environment. These include:
o Academic Support Center
o Advising & Counseling
o Office of Career Success & Experiential Learning
o Educational Opportunity Fund
o Financial Aid
o First Year Experience
o Library
o Student Life
o Testing Center
Will everyone know that I receive accommodations?
No, services are confidential. Once you go through the process with our office, you receive a letter to share with your professors informing them of your approved accommodations. We will encourage you to discuss this with your professors privately during office hours. You will be in classes with peers both with disabilities and without.
I need transportation to get to school. Will RVCC provide rides?
No. RVCC does not provide transportation for students. Public transportation is available to the campus from designated areas. For more information, contact NJ Transit, and/or other governmental assistance agencies in your county.
