Director of RVCC Planetarium Receives Prestigious Award
Amie Gallagher, Director of the Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium, has been honored by the Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society (MAPS) with the prestigious MAPS Fellow Award. The Franklin Township resident received the award at the MAPS Conference, held July 29 at the James E. Richmond Science Center in Waldorf, MD.
Established in 2010, the MAPS Fellow award recognizes members of the organization who maintain an active membership status of a minimum of seven consecutive years and fulfill at least one of the following criteria: held an elective office or served on the MAPS Board; served as a conference host; provided significant service to the Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society; or made a significant contribution to the planetarium methodology, technology, or education.
A MAPS member since 1993, Gallagher has attended half of the organization’s conferences during that time period and has presented papers at each conference. She has been a member of the Education and Election committees and also served as the organization’s Interim President in 1999. This year Gallagher will be on the ballot for Secretary.
An Astronomy Consultant, Gallagher has worked at the RVCC Planetarium since 2003. She previously served as Astronomy Educator and Planetarium Producer at the American Museum of Natural History - Hayden Planetarium in New York City.
