Banner Seasons for Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Soccer Teams
It was an extremely successful season for Raritan Valley Community College’s Women’s Volleyball and Men’s Soccer teams, with both teams winning their respective NJCAA East District B Championships. This year also marked the first time that two of the College’s athletic teams qualified for their national tournaments in the same season.
The RVCC Women’s Volleyball team earned its second consecutive trip to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament in early November with a 3-1 victory over Montgomery County Community College. At nationals, held in Cedar Rapids, IA, the team lost its two games to Century College and Rochester Technical and Community College by final scores of 0-3. The RVCC team finished 23-11 for the season and was awarded the number 2 overall seed in the Region XIX tournament.
Sophomore Madison Cobb was named First Team All-Region XIX, Garden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year and a Second Team NJCAA All-American. Sophomores Danna Gaitan and Skylee Ohler also were named to the All-Region XIX Team, while freshmen Dennicy Mota and Courtney Bordonaro earned spots on the Garden State Athletic Conference’s Second Team.
The Men's Soccer team continued its 11-game, unbeaten streak with a convincing 3-1 victory over host Ocean County College in the East District B Championship game in November. Sophomore Juan Orozco made six saves on the day and was assisted by sophomore Jeff Cubero, who was named MVP of the game.
With the win, RVCC returned to the NJCAA Division III National Championship in mid-November for the first time since 2022. The team played as the #8 seed in the competition, held at Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY. Sophomore German Burset Romero closed out an outstanding two years at RVCC with 5 goals, leading the Lions over Finger Lakes Community College with a score of 8-2 in the National Championship’s consolation round. The Lions finish the season with an 11-4-3 record.
