Students interested in starting their educational journey for a future career in the exciting fields of music production or audio engineering will have a new opportunity at Raritan Valley Community College. Beginning in the Fall 2024 Semester, RVCC will offer an Associate of Fine Art (AFA) in Music with a new Track in Music Production.

The program, which is being offered through the College’s Arts & Design department, will prepare students for transfer into a bachelor’s degree program in music production or audio engineering at a four-year college or university.

The 60-credit program includes classes focusing on such topics as keyboard skills, music theory, music technology, digital music composition, musicianship, audio production, composition and song writing, music licensing and publishing, and rock and roll history and culture, as well as general education subjects. In addition, the program includes an Internship in Music Production. Students will have the opportunity to work in music studios based in the New York Metropolitan area and receive training in a variety of recording techniques and musical styles. Performance opportunities also will be available.

As part of the program, students will develop their musical skills during four semesters of private lessons and two semesters of music theory and musicianship classes. Those who do not have a strong music background and who are not prepared to take the theory/musicianship courses are encouraged to take a basic keyboarding class (MUSC 121 Keyboard Skills at RVCC) before enrolling in the program.
