Student Leaders Present at THRIVE Conference
Raritan Valley Community College student leaders participated in the 5th Annual THRIVE Student Conference and Opportunity Fair, held February 24 at Middlesex College in Edison. The conference was sponsored by the nonprofit, EngageNJ, a consortium of 20 NJ colleges and universities of which RVCC is a founding member.
RVCC students Garret Gerow, Sandra Faragalla, and Nick Gallo presented about student engagement; diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); and the RVotes Matter Campaign.
• Garret Gerow spoke about “Building Bridges to Success: The Power of Community and Campus Engagement in Higher Education,” which explored student engagement on campus;
• Sandra Faragalla presented on “Beauty in Diversity,” which focused on DEI education and exploring outside of one’s comfort zone; and
• Nick Gallo’s talk focused on “RVotes Matter – A Model for Civic Engagement Initiatives in Higher Education,” which highlighted the successes of RVCC’s voter registration drive and its collaborative nature, as well as the All In campaign achievements.
The THRIVE Student Conference featured a range of opportunities for students to connect with and learn from each other about their community engagement experiences through research, volunteering, service learning, civic leadership, and more.
