Tuesday, October 29, 2019

RVCC’s Women’s Volleyball and the Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams are off to an awesome start this year. Plus, both Men’s and Women’s Basketball show promise for yet another successful season. These are just a sample of the nine teams that you can join at RVCC.  All of the College’s teams participate in NJCAA DII or NJCAA DIII. Getting involved is a win-win because you get to compete, build a great network of friends, and even apply for athletic scholarships at four-year colleges and universities. Many RVCC athletes have transferred to four-year schools and have received athletic or academic scholarships. For amazing RVCC Athletics news, keep reading!

Women’s Volleyball

For the first time in the College’s history, the RVCC Women’s Volleyball Team has won the NJCAA District L and NJCAA Region XIX Championships. Hannah Chiswick (Del Val High School) and Tess Rogovin (North Hunterdon High School) were honored as Tournament MVP and member of the All-Tournament Team, respectively. The National Championship Tournament, a 12-team bracket, will be held November 12-16 at UCR Regional Sports Center in Rochester, MN. The Team competes in the fall with tryouts beginning in August.

Men’s and Women’s Soccer

The RVCC Men’s Soccer Team’s performance has only gotten stronger as the season has progressed, allowing it to solidify a playoff berth as the No. 9 seed with an overall record of .500. The Team qualified for the Region XIX Playoffs after a two-year absence and will play its first round on Saturday, October 26, at Northampton Community College. And the Women’s Soccer Team, led by former NCAA DIII Coach Giuseppe Pennetti, is making huge strides in its return to the field and will compete for a NJCAA Region XIX playoff spot next season. Both Soccer Teams compete in the fall with tryouts in August.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball

Men’s Head Coach Kevin Ryan, back at the helm once again after a year absence, looks to pick up where he left off in 2017 and steer the Lions to the playoffs. After an uncharacteristic year for Men’s Basketball, Coach Ryan is confident that he has the right mix of talent for another strong season. “We have a strong freshman class combined with some returning players who look to get us back to where we want to be competitively.” Returning players include breakout star Rick’keem Mixson along with last year’s points leader, Mike Delsantro.

On the Women’s Basketball front, Coach Phil Herro looks to bring the Lady Lions further than ever after the Team’s trip to the Region XIX Playoffs last year. “We’re really excited about the new players we’ve brought in and the returning three out of five top scorers,” said Coach Herro. Both teams compete in the fall and spring with tryouts beginning in October.

Baseball and Softball

RVCC’s Baseball & Softball teams compete during the Spring Semester with tryouts taking place at the end of January.

Cross Country

RVCC’s Men’s & Women’s Cross Country teams, which compete during the Fall Semester, host tryouts in August. Also, the teams offer training during the Spring Semester.

Golf

The co-ed Golf Team competes in the Spring Semester with tryouts beginning in March.

RVCC’s Athletic Department also sponsors intramural sports programs, giving students the opportunity to socialize while keeping fit through exercise. Intramurals are established based on student interest and availability.
