New Jersey College with Engineering Program

At Raritan Valley Community College, we have a longstanding commitment to STEM education—and our engineering program is no exception! One of the fastest growing majors on campus, this robust program features a core engineering curriculum as well as eight specialty tracks, including:

  • Bioenvironmental Engineering
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Packaging Engineering

Our program is designed to fully prepare students for transfer into bachelor’s degree programs in engineering at four-year colleges and universities. Many students who earn engineering degrees at RVCC go on to graduate from top engineering schools in NJ and beyond, including Rutgers, NJIT, Stevens Institute of Technology, Lehigh, Cornell, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Virginia Tech and more.

Authentic Engineering Experience

Designed to give students an edge when seeking potential internships and employment, this hands-on course enables students to work as part of a team to design, prototype, manufacture and deliver a real product to a real customer. Students are treated as professional engineers in a dynamic, solutions-based company. With the guidance of industry experienced faculty, students work in teams to create their own designs, experience their own failures and successes, resolve their own communications conflicts, and respond to critical customer comments. Some of the innovative products created via this course include:

  • A customized, battery-free “shake light”—In partnership with RVCC’s Enactus business club, this light was manufactured, marketed and sold, with proceeds benefitting a local New Jersey food bank.
  • A transparent light-up plastic umbrella
  • A laser-light music system
  • A battery-free tent light that transmits GPS coordinates

Undergraduate Research Opportunities

At RVCC, engineering students have the opportunity to explore exciting, relevant, and open-ended individual engineering research. Student researchers have the freedom to investigate and experiment in specific applications that interest and motivate them, with one-on-one guidance from experienced faculty to learn methods of investigation and analysis. From mechanical hands made from combining 3D printers and bioelectrical nerve signals, to vertical wind energy towers and a 3D printed brain from MRI data, our students have demonstrated that the range of projects is boundless.

Engineering Club

RVCC‘s Engineering Club is designed to foster an appreciation of Engineering through a variety of activities, including competitions and projects that benefit the campus community. It consists of students interested in pursuing engineering and other science-related fields, such as architecture, engineering technology, CAD, physics, computer science and others. The club’s current community project is a service learning collaboration with the Ethicon & Bound Brook High School FIRST robotics team.

Learn More at Our Engineering Career Night!

On Thursday, October 26 from 6-8pm, RVCC is hosting an Engineering Career Night at the RVCC Conference Center at 118 Lamington Road in Branchburg, NJ. It’s a great opportunity to explore RVCC’s innovative engineering program, hear from panelists, meet with faculty and graduates, and learn about the admissions process at RVCC. Register here!
