Raritan Valley Community College Assistant Professor of Education Honored with Community College Spirit Award
TRENTON, N.J.— On June 19, during its annual New Jersey Community College Awards Ceremony, the New Jersey Council of County Colleges presented the 2017 Community College Spirit Award to Kathryn Suk, assistant professor of education at Raritan Valley Community College, for her exemplary support of New Jersey’s community colleges.
“Since its inauguration in 1993, the Community College Spirit Award has been an honor bestowed to those who embody the community college spirit – perseverance, dedication and excellence,” said NJCCC Chair Helen Albright.
Suk was recognized for her leadership working with the New Jersey Center for Student Success, specifically for working with her colleagues to revise the curriculum for the student success course at Raritan Valley Community College, and co-presenting with other New Jersey community college educators at the First-Year Experience conference in Atlanta earlier this year.
In addition to serving as assistant professor of education at Raritan Valley Community College, Suk works as the institution’s coordinator for student development courses.
She is an executive board member for the National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs and is a founding member of Teach2Matter at Raritan Valley Community College.
For 10 years, Suk taught elementary and middle school in Somerset and Hunterdon counties. She taught fourth grade, as well as middle school math and Spanish.
Suk holds a master’s of education in instruction from The College of New Jersey and a bachelor of science in finance from Rider University.
She received her elementary classroom teacher credentials through the Alternate Route Program offered by the New Jersey State Department of Education, and her supervisor of instruction certificate from Rutgers University Graduate School of Education. Suk also graduated from the Academy XVI program of Learning Forward.
She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership at Stockton University.
The New Jersey Council of County Colleges is the state association representing New Jersey’s 19 community colleges. As an independent, trustee-headed organization that joins the leadership of trustees and presidents, the Council is the voice of the community college sector before the state legislature and other branches of government.
