Somerville Fire Department Fire Police Offers Scholarship to RVCC Student
Somerville High School graduates planning to attend Raritan Valley Community College in September are invited to apply for the Somerville Fire Department Fire Police scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic year. The $500 scholarship provides financial support to a Somerville High School graduate who attends RVCC.
The Somerville Fire Department Fire Police worked with the RVCC Foundation to establish the scholarship as a way to give back to the community.
This past year’s scholarship recipient was Chelsea Castro of Somerville. Castro, who graduated from RVCC in May with an Associate of Science degree in Health Science, is the scholarship’s second recipient.
The Somerville Fire Department Fire Police perform the duty of serving the residents of Somerville as a volunteer organization. The annual scholarship is made possible through individual fundraising activities by Somerville Fire Police members and the organization plans to continue it in future years.
The RVCC Foundation is the fundraising arm of RVCC and forges partnerships with individual donors, other foundations, businesses and corporations to raise funds for scholarships and to support the College as a center of intellectual thought, cultural vibrancy, personal enrichment and an engine for economic growth.
