Thomas Mitchell Receives Distinguished Alumni Award from RVCC
The Raritan Valley Community College Alumni Association awarded Thomas Mitchell, RVCC Class of 1971, with the Distinguished Alumni Award at the College’s Academic Awards Dinner, held May 10.
The Pittstown resident was the founder and President of Instrument Sciences & Technologies, Inc., a leader in the Instrumentation Industry, which operated in nearly all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
Mitchell, who received an Associate Degree in Chemistry from RVCC, then known as Somerset County College, attributes much of his success to life lessons he learned at the College. “Of all the things I learned during my time at RVCC and throughout my very fortunate career, I am most proud of learning to pay it forward and support the very same community that enabled me to get to where I am now,” says Mitchell.
For 14 years, Mitchell has been a leading member of the RVCC Golf Classic Committee, helping to secure over $1.5 million for student scholarships and other needs of the College. Additionally, he has mentored students at RVCC, volunteered with his local Boy Scouts troop and girls’ basketball teams, and supported the Combat Paper project through the Printmaking Center of New Jersey. Mitchell’s wife Liz is also an RVCC alumna.
The RVCC Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes living RVCC alumni for their professional achievements; civic contribution within their local community, the state or nationally; academic achievements; service to the College; and personal triumphs.
The RVCC Alumni Association’s mission is to provide services and benefits that enrich the lives of RVCC alumni, to build lasting ties between alumni and the College, and to foster support among alumni for the work of the College now and in the future.
