Raritan Valley Community College’s chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society participated in the fifth annual New Jersey Community College Completion Challenge (NJC4), October 16-20. NJC4 is a campaign that inspires students to complete their associate degrees and certificates, and encourages them to pursue their bachelor’s degrees at four-year colleges and universities.

During NJC4 week, each of New Jersey’s 19 community colleges hosted events on campus to raise awareness of the many resources available that aid in the college completion process. Focusing on the theme of “Building a Better Self/College/Community,” RVCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter spearheaded a number of events on campus, including indoor and outdoor cleanups, a health fair, and a talk focusing on mental illness. The chapter also encouraged students to commit to completing college by signing both a physical banner and an online pledge.

Partners for the statewide NJC4 events include Rutgers University-Newark, Kean University, New Jersey Council of County Colleges’ (NJCCC) Center for Student Success, and Phi Theta Kappa. “The NJC4 campaign conveys a vital message to all community college students statewide,” said NJCCC President Dr. Lawrence A. Nespoli. “It is imperative that you complete your degree, as it is the gateway to a great job.”

In fall 2013, New Jersey was the first state in the nation to implement a statewide community college completion awareness program. Since then, 20 other states have used NJC4 as a template for similar college completion programs.

The New Jersey Council of County Colleges is the state association representing New Jersey’s 19 community colleges. As an independent, trustee-headed organization that joins the leadership of trustees and presidents, the Council is the voice of the community college sector before the state legislature and other branches of government.

Raritan Valley Community College’s main campus is located at 118 Lamington Road in Branchburg, NJ. For further information, visit www.raritanval.edu.
