Pharmacy technicians have become indispensable to the healthcare industry, making it a great time to join this growing field. Pharmacy technician classes can get you started on this fulfilling career path, equipping you with the skills and knowledge needed for entry-level positions in pharmacies and preparing you for national certification. Pharmacy technicians work under licensed pharmacists to help dispense prescription medication to customers or health professionals.
Upon completion of this course, you will be prepared to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE), offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
Tara Shaw* is a registered and certified pharmacy technician with more than 35 years of experience across diverse pharmacy settings. She began her career at CVS Pharmacy in 1988 while still in high school and often says the profession chose her. Decades later, her enthusiasm remains just as strong as the first day she stepped behind the counter.
Tara’s career spans hospital, long-term care, correctional and rehabilitation facilities, managed care, education, and PBM management. For more than 15 years, she has shared her expertise as an instructor, guiding and mentoring future pharmacy professionals with a steadily growing student success rate.
Tara’s been teaching at Raritan Valley Community College for more than four years. She brings real-world knowledge, practical insight, and engaging storytelling that go far beyond the textbook—inviting the next generation of pharmacy technicians to discover the excitement and opportunity within the profession.
