Raritan Valley Community College’s Arts & Design department will present Expanding the View of Photography: from Realism to Abstraction, an exhibition showcasing the work of 10 photographers, January 19-February 18, in the Art Gallery at the College’s Branchburg campus.

The show is being curated by RVCC Adjunct Professors Dot Paolo and Kathleen Schulz. The opening reception will be held Friday, January 21, from 5-7 p.m. As a precautionary measure against COVID-19, the reception will not include an artists’ talk or refreshments. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Face masks are required in the Art Gallery and in all College buildings.

The exhibition showcases the signature style of each photographer, creating a visual survey of what contemporary photography offers as an artistic discipline. The work highlights the traditional aspects of two-dimensional design, printmaking, painting, color theory and still life. The connection among the artists is their commitment to the art of photography and their invention of original and memorable images. Subject matter ranges from political issues to the sheer beauty of the world, while processes vary from street photography to work produced in the studio. The result is an exhibition that strikes a balance between experimental and traditional images.

The exhibiting artists include: Donna Bassin, Montclair; Patricia Bender, Somerset; Kevin Hinkle, Asbury Park; Eileen Hohmuth-Lemonick, Princeton; Neil O. Lawner, New York, NY; Donald Lokuta, Pittsboro, NC; Morgan Strus-Allen, Oxford; Annalyse Varlow, South Brunswick; William Vandever, Sayreville; and Jane Waggoner Deschner, Billings, MT.

Gallery hours for the exhibition are Mondays, 3-8 p.m.; Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Wednesdays, 3-8 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Fridays, 1-4 p.m. For further information, contact Arts & Design, 908-218-8876.
