Theatre to Present Show Focusing on Doo Wop Music
Local audiences will find themselves humming along when the Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg presents a performance by The Doo Wop Project, Friday, April 12, at 8 p.m.
The Doo Wop Project features a group of talented, charismatic, and engaging Broadway stars from smash hit shows like Jersey Boys, Motown: The Musical, and A Bronx Tale, who trace the evolution of Doo Wop from the classic sounds of five guys singing harmonies on a street corner to today’s biggest hits.
The Doo Wop Project takes audiences on a journey from foundational tunes of groups like the Crests, Belmonts, and Flamingos; through their influences on the sounds of Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and The Four Seasons; all the way to “Doo-Wopified” versions of modern songs originally performed by such artists as Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz, Amy Winehouse, Maroon 5—and even Garth Brooks.
Whether it’s generating multiple standing ovations at prestigious performing arts centers, wowing crowds at casino showrooms nationwide, or having the patrons of major symphony orchestras sing the group’s praises, The Doo Wop Project always brings unparalleled authenticity of sound and vocal excellence. The singers recreate—and in some cases entirely reimagine—some of the greatest music in American pop and rock history. The show is a must-see, high-energy celebration of a beloved and enduring music genre.
