Raritan Valley Community College’s Visual and Performing Arts Department will present The Sonic Life of a Giant Tortoise by Toshiki Okada, translated by Aya Ogwawa, October 24-26, at 7:30 p.m. The performances will be held in the Welpe Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus.

The dramatic comedy, a modern folktale set against an urban landscape, depicts people’s desires for an extraordinary life. While everything seems comfortable in the characters’ everyday lives, they are affected by a powerful undercurrent of longing for something more.

In its review of the play, Time Out New York said: “These are serious questions, and I, like the characters, may be sleeping through them. In those moments, the play feels like a knife in the gut.”

Directed by Dennis Russo, RVCC Professor of Theatre, the one-act play runs approximately 40-45 minutes.

The production features the following RVCC students:

Lindsey Kazar – Branchburg

Lesia Bilynsky – Flemington

Phil Husbands – Somerset

John Duensing – Long Hill

James Van Patten – Whitehouse Station

Tickets to the performance cost $8 each. For tickets, call 908-725-3420. For further information about the production, contact the Visual and Performing Arts Department, 908-218-8876.

RVCC is located at 118 Lamington Road in Branchburg, NJ. For further information, visit www.raritanval.edu.
