RVCC Art Professor Creates Murals for Historic Bush Terminal
Ji Yong Kim, Assistant Professor in Raritan Valley Community College’s Arts & Design department, recently completed two large murals in the historic Bush Terminal, located in Brooklyn, NY’s Sunset Park neighborhood. The project, supported by the New York City Economic Development Corporation, is part of a larger renovation of the Bush Terminal buildings along the Brooklyn waterfront.
The designs, which are featured on the terminal’s Skybridge, were developed over the summer of 2024 after a series of public community meetings and the input from over 10 non-profit organizations in Sunset Park.
The northern side of the Skybridge features dancers, commonly seen in Sunset Park, representing the celebration of diverse cultures through group dances.
In contrast, the southern side displays the text “Sunset Park” and is accompanied by depictions of current residents engaged in various businesses and activities.
Ji Yong Kim was assisted in painting the murals by artists Yukiko Izumi, Plushie, Motoko Otsuki, and RVCC Visual Arts alumna Elisa Gislao. The RVCC graduate is currently pursuing her BFA at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.
