Laurie Winans of Hampton, a 2018 graduate of Raritan Valley Community College, is the recipient of the Baker & Rannells Paralegal Studies Student Graduate Award.

Winans was presented with the honor at RVCC's Academic Awards Ceremony, held this spring at the College's Branchburg campus. The award was established by Baker & Rannells, PA, a New Jersey-based law firm that specializes in intellectual property, trademark and copyright law.

The award honors an RVCC student graduating with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) or a Certificate in Paralegal Studies who has demonstrated not only academic excellence, but also a commitment to service combined with an ethic of justice, fairness and integrity, according to Stephen Baker, Esq., President of Baker & Rannells, PA.

“The firm has hired a number of RVCC graduates from the Paralegal Studies program and has benefited from the good education that the College provides. The award is our way of thanking RVCC,” said Baker.

Kelly Hnasko, a graduate of RVCC’s Paralegal Studies program who works at Baker & Rannells, presented the $500 prize to Winans at the May ceremony.

Winans is a Senior Marketing Content Writer at A.M. Best in Oldwick and is the primary writer for the Legal/Claims department. She earned a 4.0 grade point average in the Paralegal Studies AAS program and received the department’s 2018 Academic Award. She previously volunteered as a parent advocate for a national children’s cancer group.
