Learn how to become a line worker or substation electrician in the electric utility industry by attending an information session for the Power Systems Institute (PSI), Tuesday, November 1, from 6-8 p.m., at Raritan Valley Community College. The program is offered by Jersey Central Power & Light, a FirstEnergy Company, in partnership with Raritan Valley Community College. The information session will be held in the Conference Center at the College’s Branchburg campus.

The Power Systems Institute is a unique, two-year program featuring learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. Tuition, books and lab fees will be paid by JCP&L for qualified students. Students who successfully complete the two-year PSI program earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electric Utility Technology from RVCC.

The RVCC curriculum includes technical coursework in such areas as electrical fundamentals and electrical circuits, technology labs and business-specific courses, in addition to the required general education courses in such areas as English composition, technical math, computer literacy and interpersonal communications.

Outside the classroom, students receive hands-on lessons—from climbing utility poles to testing substation equipment—at one of FirstEnergy’s training centers. Following the second semester, qualified students are required to participate in a compensated, 10-week (40-hour/week) evaluated field experience. Work assignments begin in May and end in August. Pre-employment screening is required.

For information about the program, contact Inieka Stafford, 908-526-1200, ext. 8519. For additional information, visit www.firstenergycorp.com/psi or call 800-829-6801.

RVCC is located at 118 Lamington Road in Branchburg, NJ. For further information, visit www.raritanval.edu.
