OTA student in equine therapy room

Members of Raritan Valley Community College’s Student Occupational Therapy Assistant Association (SOTAA) helped build a ball holder and organize materials for the sensory room at Mane Stream in Oldwick on Wednesday, November 20. The students also toured the hippotherapy facility, which incorporates horseback riding as a therapeutic or rehabilitative treatment for assistance with coordination, balance and strength.

In January 2018 RVCC became the only community college in New Jersey to offer an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree for an in-demand career as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. The OTA program is designed for students interested in entering the workforce immediately after graduation. It combines classroom instruction with clinical training in a community setting. The program is designed to be completed in two-and-a-half years, with four semesters of full-time coursework and one semester of full-time clinical fieldwork.

For information about RVCC’s OTA program, contact Beau Younker, OTA Program Director, at 908-526-1200, ext. 8416 or beau.younker@raritanval.edu, or Kimberly Meany, OTA Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, at kimberly.meany@raritanval.edu or 908-526-1200, ext. 8439.
