Lecture, Discussion with Author Alissa Quart to be Presented

Raritan Valley Community College will present "Liberating Ourselves from the Old American Dream: How To See Through The Individualist Myths And Find Communal Joy," a lecture and discussion featuring author Alissa Quart, April 16, at 4 p.m.

The event, which is free of charge and open to the public, is being sponsored by the College’s Humanities, Social Sciences, Social Work, and Education (HSSE) Department. It will be held in the Event Center, Rooms A and B, at RVCC’s Branchburg campus.

Acclaimed journalist Alissa Quart speaks on topics like poverty, economic inequality, and the myth of the “American Dream.” Alissa Quart is the author of five acclaimed books of nonfiction, Bootstrapped: Liberating Ourselves from the American Dream (Ecco, 2023), Squeezed, Republic of Outsiders, Hothouse Kids, and Branded. She is the Executive Director of the non-profit the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, which she created with the late author Barbara Ehrenreich. She is also the author of two books of poetry, Thoughts and Prayers and Monetized. She has written for many publications including The Washington Post, The New York Times, and TIME. Her honors include an Emmy, an SPJ award, a Nieman fellowship  and a Columbia University Journalism School Alumna of the Year award. She lives with her family in Brooklyn, New York.
