Interactive Musical Journey Through American History Slated at Theatre
Audiences will go on an interactive musical journey through American history when The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College presents Jonathan Blanchard in From History to Hip-Hop, February 4, at 10 a.m.
The 60-minute performance, geared for students in grades 3-8, will launch this season’s School-Time series at the Theatre. The productions offer educational field trip opportunities for school groups and homeschoolers.
From History to Hip-Hop is an engaging, curriculum-aligned arts integration program, offering students the opportunity to learn about American history through the use of music—from field songs and spirituals of the 1800s to today’s hip-hop sounds.
Through storytelling, live music, and multimedia, students discover how gospel, blues, jazz, rock, and R&B evolved alongside historical and cultural shifts. The program directly connects to language arts, social studies, and even math and science. Presented by Lincoln Center Certified teaching artist Jonathan Blanchard, the show captivates students while deepening their understanding of history and culture, making learning memorable and meaningful through the universal language of music.
Tickets for From History to Hip-Hop and all School-Time shows cost $8 per person; one free chaperone ticket is provided for every 15 tickets bought.
