Evening of Student, Faculty Dance Performances Slated
Raritan Valley Community College’s (RVCC) Visual and Performing Arts Department will present DanceWorks, an evening of student and faculty dance, Tuesday and Wednesday, December 4 and 5, at 8 p.m. The event will be held in the Edward Nash Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus. The concert is being produced by Loretta Fois, Director of RVCC’s dance program.
Four student pieces were chosen for the concert and the choreography includes Chinese dance by Tina Chen (Branchburg) and modern dance pieces by Nathan Forster (Warren), Melissa Goldstein (Stockton), and Emily Stecher (Berkeley Heights). The student choreography is the culmination of a semester of classwork as the students created and rehearsed the new works to be performed.
Faculty choreography includes pieces choreographed by Adjunct Professors Joanna Andriopoulos (Stewartsville), Marissa Aucoin (Edison), Lisa Grimes (Glen Ridge), and Lees Hummel (Piscataway). In addition to modern dance, solo variations from the ballet Don Quixote will be performed. The pieces have been readapted by Joanna Andriopoulos, Ballet Program Director at HealthQuest of Hunterdon.
The Raritan Valley Dance Ensemble (RVDE), under the direction of Loretta Fois, will perform two dances from its repertory: …Kinder by Lisa Grimes and Gestural Jam by Loretta Fois. Ensemble members include current RVCC students and alumni and community members. In conjunction with the Visual and Performing Arts Department, RVDE provides the College and greater community with opportunities to experience and appreciate live dance performance. The touring Ensemble performs at local schools and community groups each semester, as well as at campus events.
