RVCC Success Story: Get to Know Business Graduate Nasir Cole
Meet Nasir Cole—a recent RVCC business graduate with a passion for entrepreneurship.
“I always possessed leadership tendencies growing up and felt comfortable in roles where I had to lead or supervise others,” says Nasir. “Because of this and my interest in owning a business, I felt as though entrepreneurship was the right path for me.”
Nasir enrolled as a General Business major at RVCC through the Educational Opportunity Fund Program (EOF), which provides eligible students with academic and economic assistance to help them earn their college degree.
“Being an EOF Scholar has impacted my academic journey by helping me build the confidence necessary to flourish in my academic career,” says Nasir. “It gave me resources and a true sense of family, regardless of who I was speaking to,” he says.
In addition to being an EOF Scholar, Nasir took on the role of Peer Leader at RVCC. “I was assigned to mentor a group of first year students and acted as a guide for them,” he says.
His other RVCC accomplishments include making the Dean’s List, receiving the Joel F. Reyes-Guzman Scholarship, and becoming a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. He also recently volunteered with the Day-by-Day Foundation for the Bound Brook Thanksgiving Food Drive.
On top of all that, Nasir worked throughout most of his time at RVCC in roles including valet driver, student-teacher, and camp counselor. “My last semester was the first time I wasn’t working—just so I could focus my free time on meeting business school transfer requirements and navigating the transfer process,” he says.
Now that he’s earned his business administration associate degree from RVCC, Nasir plans to transfer to Monmouth University this fall, where he will major in business with a concentration in entrepreneurship. His eventual plan is to own a trucking company—a career goal that harkens back to his childhood.
“Growing up, I remember my mom telling me stories about my great grandfather, who used to spend countless hours driving trucks,” he says. “My mother drives buses and has a CDL herself, so I was pretty much always on the road and around big commercial vehicles during my childhood.”
Nasir credits RVCC as a strong foundation for his academic journey and a catalyst for his success. “RVCC has a beautiful campus, and I appreciate the events that they do to promote a safe and diverse community,” he says.
“It feels as though the faculty and staff genuinely care about the students,” he continues. I’ve grown mentally, academically, and socially during my time there, and have been introduced to people who I will keep in my circle long after school.”
