Establishing Your Goals

Good habits for college students are so important! At RVCC, we’re committed to helping prospective students learn how to be successful in college and how to set college goals that will make a real difference in their professional trajectories.

Before you begin your RVCC journey, it’s helpful to ask yourself: “What are the steps of goal setting?” This will help you set yourself up for success to meet your educational and professional objectives.

Start by thinking about a specific outcome you want to achieve, then write it down to make it “official.” For example: “I’d like to obtain a nursing degree by age 25.” Next, write down the steps you must take to achieve that goal, along with any obstacles that may come up along the way. Finally, establish check-in dates to monitor your progress and determine whether you need to make any adjustments to your plan.
