Student Jazz Ensemble to Perform Concert in December

Raritan Valley Community College’s (RVCC) Student Jazz Ensemble will perform in concert Tuesday, December 12, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be held in the Welpe Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus.

The group is directed by Dr. Oliver Santana.  Dr. Santana has been on the music scene for over 25 years and is well known as a saxophonist, woodwind doubler, arranger and educator, equally at home in Classical music, Latin music and Jazz. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where he studied with Paul Cohen.

The ensemble will perform pieces by a variety of jazz artists including Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis and Duke Ellington, as well as music from the Great American songbook including familiar, beloved standards.

The Student Jazz Ensemble includes Christian Sergile, Christian Volpe and Payton Teague, drums; Gabrial Youngman, vibraphone; Gianmarco Flores, Dennis Rodriguez, Joseph Polizzi and Rodrigo Ascencios, guitar; Sarah Stefaniak and Annaliese Johnson, vocals; Zaire Wilson, Jayden Reid and Felipe Primero, piano; and Nicolas Gallegos, bass.
