Center for Gender & Sex Equity

Empowerment through Education for Gender & Sex Equity
The intersection of activism and theory. Center for Gender & Sex Equity (CGSE) is a hub for information, providing educational programming and events. Through empowerment and support, we facilitate issue advocacy and student mentorship on/for matters related to gender, sex, and sexuality.

Delight resists tyranny. When there’s joy in the conversation, people want to be in the conversation. So we want to make sure we delight in the fight!

About Us

We are a collective of faculty, staff, students, and community members dedicated to challenging feminist traditions by creating community space for all identities to achieve individual and social change. Our philosophy is ‘from margin to center,’ which includes creating and maintaining a campus community that is safe, inclusive, and equitable. We recognize the importance of caring for the self and others as radical and revolutionary. We honor our many historical struggles, foster discussion of intergenerational and transnational views on feminisms, and promote open dialogue and activism.

What We Do

  • Host multiple events per month, both virtual and in-person

  • Advise student clubs addressing sex and gender equality:

  • Issue advocacy and student mentorship

  • Offer a paid internship beginning with the 2022-23 academic year

    • Covers up to one full year of tuition

Educational & Social Events

All of our events and programs seek to build and nurture a community around issues of women and gender, and/or engage the greater RVCC community around these issues. By uniting theory with practice, we provide quality, scholarship-driven programming that supports the institution's commitment to diversity, as well as helping to grow and support the WGST academic program.

Events include:

  • Film Screenings
  • Author Talks
  • Discussion Panels
