Local singers are invited to audition for the RVCC Chorale (formerly known as the Central Jersey Master Chorale), a performance group composed of both community members and students at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC). All voice types are welcome in the ensemble, which performs choral music from many centuries. Tenors and basses are especially needed.

The chorale rehearses on Monday nights, from 7:15-10 p.m., in the Arts building (room A-33), at RVCC?s North Branch Campus.

The chorale will begin its second season under the direction of Dr. John Sichel of Mountainside. Dr. Sichel is a well-known artist who has composed extensively in many genres. His most recent compositions include a clarinet quintet, five piano sonatas and a sonata for piano, four-hands, as well as a number of songs and short choral works. His music is published by Puna Music and Ludwig Music, as well as his under his own label, Great Horned Music.

Dr. Sichel received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Yale School of Music. He teaches theory, composition, piano, music history and rock-and-roll history at RVCC.

The group?s winter concert, featuring Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols and a variety of traditional Christmas music, will be held Saturday, December 13, at 8 p.m., in the Welpe Theatre at the College?s North Branch Campus.

Those interested in participating in the chorale should contact Dr. Sichel at jsichel@raritanval.edu or 908-526-1200, ext. 8813. Singers may also come prepared to audition one half-hour before the first rehearsal on Monday, September 8, from 7:15-10 p.m., in the RVCC Arts building (room A-33).
