Policy for Underage Admission 

Raritan Valley Community College will admit students under the ageof 18 who do not possess a high school diploma (or equivalent). These students will be admitted under one of three categories: Concurrent EnrollmentEarly Credit Program, or Underage Admission.

Procedure for Underage Admission 
A non-high school graduate (or equivalent) under the age of 18 may attend RVCC. Enrollment at RVCC is intended to supplement, not supplant, the education being provided by the secondary school system (or alternate provider). The College has the right to deny admission to underage students who fail to meet these guidelines and/or who have been suspended or otherwise officially excluded from secondary schools for disciplinary reasons.

For students age 17, the following guidelines apply:

  • Required to submit an RVCC Application for Admission with a $25 non-refundable application fee
  • May attend full time - 12 credits
  • Completion of the RVCC placement exams
  • Enrollment in developmental courses until all developmental study requirements are fulfilled
  • Submission of all academic, attendance, and discipline records for review
  • Approval from an RVCC advisor or counselor for each registration
  • Upon attaining the age of 18, students must re-apply to RVCC

For students age 16 or under, the following guidelines apply:

  • Required to submit an RVCC Application for Admission with a $25 non-refundable application fee
  • A maximum of 8 credit hours may be taken per semester
  • Approval of parental/legal-guardian
  • Completion of the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) with a composite score of at least 930 or the ACT (American College Test) with a composite score of at least 22
  • Submission of academic, attendance, and discipline records for review
  • Approval from an RVCC advisor or counselor for eachr egistration to determine that the student has the maturity level to be enrolled in a college level course
  • Continued enrollment is dependent on an evaluation conducted with the student and an RVCC advisor or counselor regarding the satisfactory academic progress and compliance with RVCC Student Code of Conduct
  • Upon reaching the age of 18, students must re-apply to RVCC
