Parking
On busy days, parking is usually available in Lot 5 and for faculty in Lot 6. Commuters are encouraged to carpool or take the shuttle when possible.
Carpool
26% of RVCC's full-time students carpool or get a ride to campus at least once a week, and 20% more are willing to carpool.
RVCC's free mobile app, RVConnect, offers a public forum for listing your commute needs and finding students to carpool with. Located under the "Student Feed", there is a "Ride Sharing" channel where students can create a post to find or offer a ride. Additionally, students can speak with classmates to potentially meet others interested in carpooling.
In cases of emergency, RVCC’s Resource Center periodically receives donations of gas money gift cards, rideshare gift cards, or bus money. While this is not dependable for regular use, it may provide support in a time of need. The Resource Center also provides free meals and/or groceries to any RVCC community member. This could aid in offsetting transportation costs. Find further information on their website. Contact the Resource Center by emailing ResourceCenterandFoodPantry@raritanval.edu or calling (908) 526-1200 x8282.
Another option is NJ RideShare’s ride-matching service, which is open to everyone. Students and employees can fill out the online form on NJ RideShare to find a carpool.
People who register their carpool, take public transit, or bike two or more times a week can register with RideWise's Ticket Home program and are eligible to be reimbursed for their ride home in case of emergency. Contact Sara Catherine Lichon at sara@ridewise.org or call (908) 704-1011, x12 for RideWise inquiries.
Carpoolers and ride-sharers registered with RideWise or CarpoolWorld will receive a placard to park in the carpool-only parking spaces in front of the West Building.
RVCC does not accept liability when students arrange carpools among themselves.
Vanpool
If you commute 15 miles or more to campus from a densely populated area like Flemington, consider vanpooling (carpooling in a rented van). Van costs are subsidized by NJ Transit. RideWise can help you join or start a vanpool.
Hunterdon County LINK Bus
Hunterdon County's LINK 23 bus stops on campus. Cost is $2 for a day pass on this route and the Flemington Shuffle routes. $2 rides to LINK stops are available. Due to the coronavirus, transportation schedules may be modified. See http://www.ridethelink.com/ or call 1-800-842-0531 for the latest information. In addition to travel to Flemington, students can also use the Hunterdon County LINK bus for travel to Bridgewater Commons Mall and the Somerville Train Station. Note that buses will not run on Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, President's Day, and Good Friday, though RVCC has classes those days.
Somerset County Shuttle Buses
Somerset County runs three bus routes to campus: CAT-1R, CAT-2R, and CAT-3R. Exact fare on these buses is $2 per trip. Additional connections and transfers to other points of travel can be made in Somerville via NJ TRANSIT bus and rail. Due to the coronavirus, transportation schedules may be modified. Schedules are available at the Welcome desk and Ridewise's County Bus Services web page. Note that buses will not run on Veteran's Day, President's Day, and Good Friday, though RVCC has classes those days.
NJ TRANSIT STUDENT DISCOUNTS
Students taking at least 12 credits are eligible for a 25% discount on monthly NJ Transit passes for bus, rail, and lightrail. Once enrolled, students need to reactivate their account each semester. To sign up, visit the NJ Transit @ RVCC page or search for "transit" in Lion's Den. For more information, visit the NJ Transit StudentPass page.
Emergency Ride Home
If you carpool, vanpool, take mass transit, bicycle or walk to RVCC two or more times per week, you can register with RideWise's Ticket Home program. Registered commuters can get reimbursed for emergency rides home due to unexpected overtime requests, a family or medical emergency, a carpool breakdown or a transit service interruption.
Electric Car Charging
In front of the West building, there are two electric car charging stations, each with two Level 2 charging cables. Charging is currently free and requires a contactless credit card, a Chargepoint swiper card, or the Chargepoint app. A fee will be charged in the future once the stations are replaced. To report a problem with a charging station, please contact brian.o'rourke@raritanval.edu.
No idling
It is against state law to idle your vehicle for more than 3 minutes. Please turn off your vehicle when parked.
