Annual Juried Exhibition to Feature Artwork by RVCC Students
Raritan Valley Community College’s (RVCC) Visual and Performing Arts Department will present the 13th Annual RVCC Art Students Juried Exhibition, November 3-22, in the Art Gallery at the College’s Branchburg Campus. The exhibition is being coordinated by RVCC faculty member and Art Gallery Coordinator Darren McManus.
The guest juror for this year’s exhibition is Liz Kelton Sheehan, an educator and independent curator of contemporary art with particular interests in public, interactive and interdisciplinary projects. A resident of Solebury, PA, Sheehan has over 15 years of experience working with museums and organizations in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions. In 2016 she curated exhibitions for the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton and the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, PA. Sheehan also organizes the Lambertville-New Hope PechaKucha series, which she began in 2015 to provide a forum for the creative communities on both sides of the Delaware. She holds degrees in art history and museum studies from Bowdoin College and Tufts University.
Artwork completed by RVCC students in the College’s Visual and Performing Arts Department during the past year—since the Fall 2015 semester—will be featured in the juried show. The artwork will include a wide variety of media, including ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic design, multimedia, photography, illustration, interior design, video and printmaking.
An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held at the RVCC Art Gallery on Thursday, November 3, from 5-7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
Each student was permitted to submit up to three pieces of artwork for consideration. Sheehan will evaluate all the entries and make the final selections for the exhibition, including the award winners.
Gallery hours for the exhibition are Mondays, 3-8 p.m.; Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Wednesdays, 3-8 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Fridays, 1-4 p.m. For further information, contact the Visual and Performing Arts Department, 908-218-8876.
