Advising & Counseling  - Meet the Staff

Hi, my name is Greg DeSanctis. I am the Director of Advising, Counseling & Special Programs.  I have worked in Advising & Counseling  since 2007.  Prior to working in advising, I spent six years working in the Financial Aid Office at RVCC.  I received my Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University in Labor Relations and my Master’s degree in Education from the University of Phoenix.  I also serve as the advisor for both NJ STARS and the RVCC Honors College as well as helping students develop college/life skills by serving as an instructor for “The College Experience”.  I know that navigating your way through college can be an extremely challenging endeavor. I am here to help guide you through the process and try to alleviate any concerns you have surrounding your RVCC experience.  My door is always open and I welcome your visit…so stop by anytime!  In my spare time I enjoy lifting weights, jogging and playing sports (softball and football).  I am a devoted PSU alumnus who can be found most Saturdays during the fall watching Penn State football. Email me!

My name is Ela Chrobot. Here at RVCC I am a part time academic advisor and a professional tutor. I was born and raised in Poland. I got my Master’s degree in Economics and worked for a couple of years as a computer programmer/analyst in my hometown of Warsaw. I came to the U.S. more than 20 years ago. Since 2003 I have been helping RVCC students as a tutor in English as a Second Language and Accounting. In May 2010 I also started working at the Advising and Counseling Services as a part time academic advisor. The essence of both of my positions at RVCC – as a tutor and an advisor – is to help students; in tutoring it is to find the best strategies to study; in academic advising - to effectively navigate through the complicated system of higher education in the US. I find it my privilege to be able to work with American students. My goal is always to find the best solution for the student’s particular needs. My best reward is when the solution works and the student succeeds. Each student is unique, each case is different. These aspects make my job truly interesting. I enjoy being at RVCC, but I also enjoy nature. You can find me walking, hiking, kayaking or biking in our beautiful New Jersey state parks or in our neighboring states. During the summer my favorite activity is spending time with my family and friends in Poland, talking, eating, traveling and just enjoying the life.  Email me!

Hello, my name is Alicia Gabrielski. I began my career at RVCC in 2004 as a professional tutor in our Academic Support Center. In May, 2010, I happily accepted the opportunity to work as a part-time Academic Advisor . Since then, I have divided my time in both departments helping students understand how they can best reach their potential at RVCC.  As a tutor I help students meet their academic goals in English composition, research writing, English as a Second Language and beginning Spanish.  At the ASC I also work on special projects, such as producing videos, training materials and educational handouts. As an Advisor I help students understand curriculum requirements, choose appropriate courses and plan a course for their future. I truly enjoy getting to know students and working with them as they progress from course to course and from one semester to another. Our student population is very diverse and it is satisfying to advise students of all ages, backgrounds and cultures.  I received a B.A. in English from Rutgers University, have taken communication and business courses through the University of California and I am certified by the College Reading and Learning Association as a level-four tutor. I worked for 18 years in business as a communications consultant and professional writer.  I enjoy cooking (some call me a “foodie”), playing tennis and golf, walking my collie, reading novels and most of all traveling with my husband, two sons and extended family. Hi, I am Gina Kuijlaars (it’s pronounced KY-LARZ, a lot easier said than it looks.)  I am excited to start my first academic year here at RVCC as the Mental Health Counselor.   I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Clinically Certified Forensic Counselor. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Fordham University and my MA in Counselor Education from Kean University. I have been working in the behavioral health field helping individuals on many levels of care from individual counseling, emergency room/crisis counseling, in-patient settings and day programming.  I began working in hospital settings on in-patient psychiatric units.  I worked with those with behavior health and dual diagnosed issues.  Taking another challenge in my career, I became a certified screener and director of a psychiatric emergency screening service.  I, then, moved on to start a partial hospital program for psychiatric and dual diagnosed individuals.  Taking an opportunity to move into the educational system, I began working with elementary and middle age school children.  Recently, I worked at a private 4-year woman’s college where I helped the students with their personal issues and provided programs on various topics from anxiety/stress reduction, anger management, time management and relationship issues.  I created the Healthy Relationships curriculum that is being used in core courses at my previous position. I believe in helping the students find their way by providing the appropriate tools they need to succeed both here at RVCC and in other aspects of their lives.  I have an eclectic theory base and will utilize different techniques with the students to help them move forward in life.  When I’m not at work, I am with my 2 girls either on the softball field or coaching their recreational cheer squad or just taking time to listen to music and catching up with friends.  Email me!
