Programs and Services for Adult Students

Raritan Valley Community College provides a variety of support services designed to meet the unique needs and varied interests of adult students and those who are considering becoming adult students.  All students are able to take advantage of these Advising & Counseling services designed to assist students in reaching their full potential as students and as individuals.

The college offers a Lifelong Educational Opportunity Students (L.E.O.S.) Club which provides an opportunity for non-traditional students to share their experiences and concerns in a supportive atmosphere and increase institutional awareness of adult needs.

Free College Workshops are offered throughout the year on topics such as time management, test anxiety, and dealing with depression. The schedule is posted in Lions Den and on the Advising & Counseling web page. They are open to all RVCC students.

Adult students frequently are able to earn Credit for Prior Learning by taking CLEP exams, the NYU Foreign Language exam or a Raritan Valley Community College Departmental exam. Additional information is available at the Testing Center.

The Children’s Campus is our on-site day care facility for children from three months to five years.

Transfer and Career Services are available to all students at no charge. Information about transfer opportunities and college visits in addition to assistance with the transfer process is available. Students are also encouraged to explore career possibilities through various assessments, internships and mentoring.

Transfer Night is held in the Spring.  Participating colleges have "adult friendly" programs and welcome RVCC adult graduates.

Tutoring by appointment or drop-in is available in nearly every subject offered at the college.

Many adults are eligible for Financial Aid, which comes in the form of grants, loans and scholarships.

The RVCC Library is open 7 days a week during the school year and 6 days during the summer, with extensive resources available.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the nationally recognized honor society for community college students. Adults comprise more than half of the membership.
