RVCC Environmental Club Sets Event on Impact of Oil, Gas Pipelines

The Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) Environmental Club will host a panel presentation, “From Standing Rock to Penn East: The Impact of Oil and Gas Pipelines on Our Lives,” Wednesday, April 12, from 6-9 p.m. The event, which is free of charge and open to the public, will be held in the Conference Center at the College’s Branchburg campus.

The evening will feature panelists speaking about the environmental impacts of oil and gas pipelines, including effects on water, agriculture, habitats, endangered species, preserved and sacred lands, public health, climate change, eminent domain and transitioning from fossil fuels to sustainable energy sources.

Speakers will include Jeff Tittel, Sierra Club, NJ Chapter; Patty Cronheim, ReThink EnergyNJ; Emile DeVito, NJ Conservation Foundation; Matt Smith, Food & Water Watch; Katie Smith, Pinelands Preservation Alliance; and Michael Brogan, Assistant Professor, Rider University. The presentations will include question-and-answer sessions.

Environmental justice organizations, including RVCC’s Environmental Justice Partnership representing students, faculty and staff, will present information about how participants may get involved in protecting the environment.

The event also will include information tables and networking, and an indigenous “Water is Life” ceremony.
