Lewis And Clark

This is ALL THINGS CONSIDERED from NPR News.

I'm Robert Siegel.

And I'm Michele Norris.
In the summer of 1803, President Thomas Jefferson dispatchedCaptain Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to lead an expeditionthrough the vast uncharted wilderness of the new West. Their7,000-mile voyage of discovery still fascinates Americans. And inthis, the 200th anniversary year of the expedition, there are newbooks examining almost every aspect of the legendary trek. One bookin particular caught our attention because it answered aninteresting question: Just how did the explorers feed themselvesduring their two years away from civilization? The answer can befound in meticulous diaries that Lewis and Clark both kept.
