The Allied Health Department of Raritan Valley Community College?s (RVCC) Corporate & Continuing Education (CCE) division will be offering a program in ?Elder Mediation: The Role of the Health Care Professional as a Neutral Third Party Expert.? The one-day class will be held Saturday, November 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Courts are increasingly turning to mediation as a viable mechanism for resolving familial conflicts, including elder care disputes. Mediation?s goal is to help parties manage their conflicts in a more productive and satisfying way than the traditional litigation. The course provides health care professionals (including nurses, social workers, geriatric care managers, therapists, counselors and physicians) with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and appreciate the mediation process.

The fee is $135. Upon completion of the course, a New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA) Certificate with 6 contact hours will be issued. The Allied Health Department also will be offering the following courses:

Fitness Coaching for Fitness Professionals
The course is designed for Certified Personal Trainers interested in learning skills used by the most successful coaches. Some of the subjects to be discussed include matching clients? needs with fitness activities, establishing skills and personal styles, and engaging in dialogue to help establish and meet clients? goals.

Overview and Management of 21-CFR-11 Compliance, EDM Systems & Electronic Submission of Data to FDA for Clinical Trials
The course is designed for anyone who needs an introduction to the sweeping new rules governing the treatment of electronic data in clinical trials. It?s also appropriate for those who bring existing clinical study-related documents and databases into compliance.

Audit & Inspection of Clinical Trials
The course is designed for students preparing for a career transition to clinical research, as well as individuals in the pharmaceutical industry who wish to broaden their skill sets within clinical research.

Wound Care 101
The course provides an overview of caring for chronic and acute wounds. It is designed for health care providers and others involved in the decision-making process for wound care treatment.

What?s up with Ostomy Care
The course provides an overview of the anatomy and physiology of the GI and GU systems and their relationship to an ostomy. Participants learn about the different types of ostomies and the care each type requires.

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner/the Sexual Assault Response Team (SANE/SART)
The course offers an overview of the roles of the sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) and the sexual assault response team (SART).

Elder Abuse
The Forgotten Side of Domestic Violence The course covers the often neglected area of elder abuse, tackling such difficult questions as: Who are the victims/abusers? What are the risk factors? What are the signs of abuse? Where can one go for help?

A Silent Crippler, What You Can Do The course offers nutritional information related to osteoporosis. Assistance with osteoporosis prevention, as well as information about appropriate diets and foods sources to help prevent bone loss, are also presented.
